Luminescent Scarab Beetle Charm
Scarab Beetles are a symbol of renewal and rebirth, dating back to Ancient Egypt.
This particular scarab, a part of Maura Green's new Luminescent Collection, is hand carved by Bailinese master carvers from milky clear chalcedony which is expertly joined to a thin layer of hand carved abalone, which has complex layers of patterns and colors in it’s nacre. This combination creates a bio-luminescent effect, where the scarab appears to glow from within.
Each Scarab is completely unique and which changes when viewed from different angles.
This scarab is hand set into a 14K yellow gold and diamond frame in New York City, where the pieces take their final form and come to life.

Maura Green, knows that jewelry can be deeply personal, and she creates her pieces “to endure, to transcend, to celebrate, to remember, to protect, to shine.” Maura has her own inspiration when creating a piece, but the wearer’s own intention and perspective is what activates the pieces, brings them to life and makes them meaningful.
A trained bench jeweler, designer, and longtime NYC resident- Maura’s obsession with jewelry and adornment began early. As a very young girl Maura’s father would bring her “antiquing” with him on Sundays- while her dad admired large scale furniture and art, Maura migrated towards the little sparkly odds and ends in the jewelry display cases. She fell in love with the transformational aspect of jewelry- how it acts upon and activates the body of the wearer. Her style is inspired heavily by both the Victorian jewelry and sentimentality of the late 1800s, the clean modern lines of the Deco jewelry from the 1940s.
