Kumkum Wooden Box

Hand-carved Indian Tikka boxes originally used to store powder for religious rituals. Sindoor is a traditional vermilion red or orange-red colored cosmetic powder from India, usually worn by married women along the part of their hair. In Hindu communities the use of sindoor indicates a woman is married and ceasing to wear it usually implies widowhood.

The patina of each vintage wood pot is inspired by Hindu tika, a red spot worn on the forehead to greet visitors to their homes and mark auspicious occasions.
