Crystal of the Week: Sunstone
Welcome to our new “Crystal of the Week” blog series! For those of you who love crystals as much as I do, those whose interest might be a little peaked, and even those who just think crystals are pretty decorations, join me as we learn about the properties and uses of all kinds of crystals. These stones have always been fascinating to me. I remember when I was around 6 years old, my family went on a road trip and went to Yellowstone National Park. (If you know my dad, then you know there is no such thing as a vacation without a National Park visit.) One of my most distinct memories from this vacation was picking out a pouch full of handpicked stones of all colors and sizes at the gift shop, adding unique rocks and stones to it at every stop on our way home, all the way back to Texas. Sure, I remember Old Faithful, the rolling green hills, and the massive bison, but the stones were my favorite souvenir for years afterward. I could not tell you where that pouch is now, or even what stones I deemed worthy to bring all the way home, but they sparked an interest in me that never left. I would love to share that curiosity, that childlike wonder with all of you.
Each week, I will introduce a different crystal and explain its metaphysical properties and possible uses in your personal life, such as meditation, chakra work, or personal reflection and healing. I do not claim to be an expert in all things crystal; in fact, I will frequently reference some outside source material written by the real experts (listed below). I highly encourage you to add these books and apps to your library and explore further on your own. All crystals pictured in this series will be from my personal collection, or from the shop. If we have the crystal in the store, I will be sure to link to it on our website so you can build your crystal collection with me! There is no rhyme or reason to my choices each week, aside from my intuition. If there is a crystal I have not touched on that you’d like to know more about, reach out to me at hello@meusshop.com. I would love to hear your thoughts, feedback, and hopes for the future of this series.
My hope is that we can learn together and, in doing so, grow spiritually and intellectually, both individually and as a community.
xx
Rachel
SUNSTONE
Clarity, Cleansing, Confidence, Motivation, Strength, Vitality
As Spring dawns and warms our days, I thought we could start with a crystal that celebrates the sun and brings happiness and peace. With the sun staying up for a little longer each day and making the world feel a little more alive as we leave winter behind, there is no better crystal to begin our series and the spring season than sunstone. This crystal, enhanced by exposure to the sun, will bring a joy and lightness to your week that we so often miss in the winter. Sunstone transforms negative energy into positive, encourages creativity, energizes you, and helps you nurture and care for yourself. By increasing your feelings of self-worth and confidence, sunstone can help you break off toxic relationships and give you the strength to become more independent. While it is certainly useful in warding off the negativity of other people, sunstone also encourages you to improve yourself by helping you break harmful habits and patterns that are keeping you from reaching your full potential. Sunstones are excellent to use when looking to express your true self, happily and uninhibited.
USES
Sunstone is excellent for Sacral Chakra work, which is located about one inch below your belly button. A balanced Sacral Chakra enhances creativity and helps a person feel more comfortable and confident in their sexuality by balancing the masculine and feminine energies. An overactive Sacral Chakra manifests in feelings of frustration, manipulative behavior and personal instability. If your Sacral Chakra is underactive, you may exhibit signs such as emotional dependency, hoarding, and oversensitivity. Use Sunstone in chakra work to assist in finding the balance between these two extremes by placing the crystal on the chakra point while meditating.
Carry Sunstone with you throughout your day or week to bring positive energy and happiness by blocking negative energies and lifting feelings of depression. Use as a grounding tool in overwhelming or difficult situations.
Use Sunstone in mediations or when setting your intentions to help manifest happiness, peace of self, creativity, and self-expression. If you feel comfortable with the practice, use a crystal chart or perform candle work in your intention setting, or use sunstone with Tarot to ward off negative energies.
Find a Sunstone worry stone in the shop or online here.
